Traveling Pt. 4

Richard’s last boyfriend told him that he just couldn’t be comfortable around him. It wasn’t that Richard himself made him uncomfortable, it was just that he didn’t feel like he could be as open to intimacy as Richard was in a short period of time. That taught Richard two things:

1. That you can actively engage in a relationship with someone else, and that does not mean that your feelings will be reciprocated.

2. That being too open with someone will only hurt you.

So when he got that text, he felt stuck. On the one hand, should he open himself up to this girl he barely knew. On the other hand, if she was that open, should he go for it?

Just let it go. Won’t you let it be. Why don’t you be you. And I’ll be me…

At this point, Richard was in Slow Train, taking advantage of the fact that no one would really be around. He had heard that James Bay song so much, and he wondered if the baristas knew the inner turmoil that was going on in his head and set up a playlist for him.

He decided to go for it. It was possible that they wouldn’t meet anyway after this break.

I’m a virgin

Whoa. OK.

I’m sorry, that was a bad joke. It’s not true.

You joke about being a virgin?

I don’t know any here, so I figured it’d be funny…

That’s some fuckboy shit

I’m not a fuckboy

That was fuckboi behavior

Are you mad?

No, just confused. Why would you say that?

A pause. And then…

The last time I had sex was with my boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend.

A pause. And then…

Did y’all break up cause you were bad?

Not what he was expecting.
